End of Term 1 - Lessons Learn't.

Term 1 has been a real learning curve with regard to my HCN child (M) and how to try and support a child who is at very high risk.  M's behaviour has steadily declined and become more extreme as the term has progressed.  School has been working with a raft of agencies and people to try and support him and his caregiver through this difficult time.  At the end of term we are at place where his core team of adults are meeting once if not twice a week and he is only at school until 12.30pm.  M is also on a special programme where he is constantly supervised by adults and works with me for two hours a day three days a week.  He goes to the Leg Up Trust on Fridays and has the option of coming to work with me in a New Entrant classroom on Tuesdays.

We are seeing small improvements and our long term challenge will be to integrate M back into the classroom next term.  We are hoping this is a rough patch and not a permanent state of behaviour.
I have learnt how agencies work together and also can see the frustration when tasks are not carried out or information is not being shared.  I feel that I have grown in my role in supporting M and we have a good relationship where learning is still occurring across the core subjects.

However M has required a lot of time which I haven't been able to devote to Karla and Maths.  Next term I will manage my time more effectively and do justice to all roles.

I am enjoying my day in the New Entrant class and there is a part of me that is hankering for my own class again although I love my position doing various roles with children across the whole school.

The Facebook page we have established to share professional development readings and info has been invaluable and the staff are really on board with contributing and discussing info.  Next term I need to step up on my 'mathematical presence' and spend time in classrooms.  So far I have been more of a 'go to' person and resource bank.  I have also filled lots of gaps in the maths equipment department too.

So - goals for next term:
Step up maths presence in classes.
Take a staff meeting on Basic Facts.
Integrate M back into his classroom full/or at least part time.
Extend Karla's learning in core subjects and PE.
Oh and keep my Inquiry on track😄
